    Building permits top $2 million
    The city of Brenham issued more than $2 million in permits last month for new construction, renovations and additions.
     
    Thirty-seven permits totaling $2,105,503 were issued during July.

    That brought the year-to-date figure to 230 permits totaling $32,812,734.
     
    During the same period last year, 191 permits totaling $21,346,682 were issued.
     
    The largest single permit issued last month was for a $623,000 interior remodeling project at Starbuck’s on U.S. 290 West.
     
    Homebuilding surged in July, with 12 permits ($1,081,628) issued. That brought the number new home permits this year to 47 ($4,076,950).
     
    Through July 2015, 32 permits ($2,996,940) were issued for new homes.
     
    Other permits issued by category in July were (year-to-date totals are in parentheses):
     
    • Residential renovations — Five permits, $57,926 (41 permits, $385,054).
     
    • Residential additions — Eight permits, $112,901 (44 permits, $484,399).
     
    • New commercial buildings — Two permits, $102,000 (14 permits, $20,803,150).
     
    • Commercial renovations — Six permits, $691,549 (34 permits, $2,983,900).
     
    • Commercial additions — Two permits, $4,500 (30 permits, $2,697,831).
     
    Two permits for demolitions were also issued.
