    Building permits surge past $30 million
    The city of Brenham issued almost $3.3 million in building permits in June, pushing the year-to-date total to $30.7 million.
     
    Thirty-eight permits were taken out last month for new construction, renovations and repairs, totaling $3,289,605.

    So far this year, 193 permits totaling $30,707,231 have been issued.
     
    Through June last year, 158 permits totaling $17,630,536 were issued.
     
    The largest single permit was $1.5 million, issued to Goodwill for a store at 2804 Wood Ridge Boulevard.
     
    Select Furnishings took out a $750,000 permit for its new facility at 1900 U.S. 290 West.
     
    Permits for seven homes were issued in June, at $541,487. For the year, 35 permits have been taken out for new residences ($2,995,322).
     
    Through June 2015, 28 permits ($2,653,400) were issued for new homes.
     
    Other permits issued last month were (the year-to-date totals are in parentheses):
     
    • Residential renovations — Six permits, $40,579 (38 permits, $327,129).
     
    • Residential additions — Eight permits, $142,260 (36 permits, $371,498).
     
    • New commercial buildings — Four permits, $2,320,150 (12 permits, $29,701,150).
     
    • Commercial renovations — Six permits, $208,940 (28 permits, $2,292,351).
     
    • Commercial additions — Three permits, $12,869 (28 permits, $2,693,331).
     
    Two permits for multi-family structures were also issued; one for a sprinkler system ($10,300) and another for signage ($8,000).
