    Building permits surge in March
    Building permits surged here in March, which saw permits taken out for a new motel and the first phase of a new recreation center on the Blinn College campus.
    The city of Brenham issued 39 permits last month totaling $9,544,034 in new construction, renovations and additions.

    March’s permits brought the year-to-date total to 90 permits totaling $12,732,983.
    Through March last year, 66 permits totaling $11,976,950 were issued.
    The largest single permit was issued for a new Holiday Inn Express, which broke ground last month on a $5.5 million hotel at 2685 Schulte Boulevard.
    Blinn College also took out a $1.2 million permit for foundation and paving work at its new Kruse Recreational Center at 208 Blinn Boulevard.
    Valmont Galvanizing was issued a $1,168,400 permit for a concrete slab at the facility.
    Builders also took out 14 permits for new homes ($1,170,627). So far this year, 27 permits have been issued for new homes ($2,363,235).
    Through March 2015, 15 permit for new homes had been issued ($1,643,480).
    Other permits issued last month were (the year-to-date totals are in parentheses).
    • Residential renovations — Seven permits, $113,733 (17 permits, $179,657).
    • Residential additions — Four permits, $16,346 (17 permits, $119,036).
    • New commercial buildings — Two permits $6.7 million (three permits, $6,707,000).
    • Commercial renovations — Five permits, $1,298,462 (10 permits, $1,358,562).
    • Commercial additions — Five permits, $99,764 (nine permits, $1,622,644).
    Two demolition permits were also issued last month.
