    Building permits for year top $40 million
    The city of Brenham issued more than $2.2 million in building permits during September, boosting the 2016 total past $40 million.
     
    Twenty-five permits totaling $2,250,155 were issued last month for new construction, renovations and additions.

    So far this year, 293 permits totaling $40,787,800 have been issued.
     
    Through September last year, 243 permits totaling $24,677,415 were issued.
     
    The largest permit issued last month was for St. Mary Catholic Church’s heating/air conditioning work at $878,300.
     
    Baylor Scott & White took out a $496,971 renovation permit for its facilities at 604 U.S. 290 West.
     
    Brenham Heritage Museum was issued a building permit for a $225,000 renovation project.
     
    Super Donuts received a permit for a new building at 200 Martin Luther King Parkway. Construction costs were put at $200,000.
     
    Homebuilding slowed somewhat in September but still remains ahead of 2015.
     
    Three permits totaling $90,815 were issued for new residences.
     
    For the year, permits for 60 new homes ($5,087,285) have been issued, compared to 43 permits ($4,844,113) through the same period last year.
     
    Other permits issued in September were:
     
    • Residential renovations — Three permits, $107,000.
     
    • Residential additions — Three permits, $4,475.
     
    • New multi-family construction — One permit (fire sprinkler), $10,300.
     
    • Multi-family renovations — Two permits, $7,000.
     
    • New commercial construction — Two permits, $203,996.
     
    • Commercial renovations — Eight permits, $1,629,821.
     
    • Commercial additions — Two permits, $191,248.
