    Building permits for year top $27 million
    Building permits issued by the city of Brenham in 2015 surged past the $27 million mark with $2.4 million in new construction, renovations and additions during October.
     
    The city issued 36 permits last month, totaling $2,446,673.

    That brought the 2015 total to date to 279 permits totaling $27,126,088.
     
    Through October last year, 328 permits totaling $23,586,803 were issued.
     
    Blue Bell Creameries took out the two largest permits issued last month, one for addition of a $709,333 “shoe change” building and another for a $440,000 renovation at its facilities here.
     
    Blue Bell in April shut down manufacturing at its plant here and is making safety improvements before reopening ice cream making lines.
     
    Nine permits totaling $988,800 were issued for new homes. Those brought the year-to-date total to 52 homes ($5,832,913).
     
    Through October last year, 80 permits for new homes were issued ($8,375,401).
     
    Other permits issued last month were (the year-to-date totals are in parentheses):
     
    • Residential renovations — Seven permits, $111,275 (60 permits, $1,028,726).
     
    • Residential additions — Five permits, $20,890 (30 permits, $252,924).
     
    • New commercial buildings — One permit, $38,000 (53 permits, $13,733,731).
     
    • Commercial renovations — 10 permits, $552,150 (60 permits, $5,451,176).
     
    • Commercial additions — Four permits, $717,558 (15 permits, $749,443).
     
    One relocation permit for $20,000 was also issued in October.
