    $33 million in building permits issued in 2015
    The city of Brenham issued $33 million in permits for new construction, additions and renovations last year.
     
    For 2015, 330 permits totaling $33,010,128 were issued, compared to 370 permits totaling $28,975,367 in 2014.

    Homebuilding was down considerably, with 57 permits ($6,453,793) issued last year. That compares to 83 permits in 2014 ($8,593,084).
     
    New commercial buildings led all categories last year, with 53 permits totaling $13,733,731 issued. For 2014, 74 permits ($11,229,354) were issued.
     
    Other 2015 permit totals were (the 2014 comparisons are in parentheses):
     
    • Residential renovations — Sixty-nine permits, $1,157,111 (86 permits, $1,284,621).
     
    • Residential additions — Thirty-four permits, $263,885 (46 permits, $439,295).
     
    • Commercial renovations — Seventh-three permits,$6,083,721 (50 permits, $6,901,182).
     
    • Commercial additions — Twenty-seven permits, $5,159,035 (12 permits, $231,181).
     
    Seventeen permits for demolishing or moving buildings were also issued last year.
     
    For December, 29 permits were issued, totaling $1,356,550. In December 2014, 17 permits were issued ($4,021,288).
     
    December’s permits included five for new homes ($620,880), eight for commercial renovations ($572,445), four for residential renovations ($43,625), one residential addition (4,961) and seven commercial additions ($55,639).
     
    Four relocation permits were also issued.
