    $2.9 million in building permits issued
    A new $825,000 multi-family housing complex on Sabine Street led building permits issued in May by the city of Brenham.
     
    Permits for three multi-family buildings at 606 Sabine were taken out last month by developers. The construction value of each of the buildings was $275,000.

    In May, the city issued 29 permits totaling $2,903,384 in new construction, renovations and additions.
     
    That brought the 2016 total to date to 155 permits totaling $27,417,826.
     
    Through May last year, the city had issued 119 permits totaling $$16,528,759.
     
    A $600,000 permit issued for a new car wash in the 1300 block of U.S. 290 West was the largest single permit for May.
     
    The city also took out a $460,000 permit for the M.M. Owsley Memorial Garden under construction in Fireman’s Park.
     
    No permits were taken out last month for single-family residences.
     
    Permits taken out were:
     
    • Residential renovations — Four permits, $36,424.
     
    • Residential additions — Four permits, $8,711.
     
    • New multi-family construction — Five permits, $878,500.
     
    • New commercial construction — Three permits, $1,056,000 (includes a $300,000 permit for a new building in the 20000 block of S. Market St.
     
    • Commercial renovations — Seven permits, $678,549.
     
    • Commercial additions — Five permits, $225,199.
     
    One residential demolition permit was also taken out.
